8 upcoming Sci-Fi movies of 2014 (& Trailers)

With February nearly done, the Sci-Fi movie year of 2014 is off to a rapid start with the likes of Robocop and I, Frankenstein but with more and more trailers being realeased to wet appetites, here's a round up of some of the upcoming movies I'm looking forward to see. I listed them chronologically by there realease date month with trailer links. By the way, the trailers are already out but consider this your Spoiler Alert!

1. Jodorowksy's Dune  (March 2014)
As an Artist and a Dune fan this will be really intriguing. Its a documentary on director Alejandro Jodorowsky remarkable vision to make a movie of Frank Herbert's book 'Dune', his movie version was never made but with this maybe his vision of it will live on to inspire more 'out there' thinking.

2. Transcendence  (April 2014)
A fascinating and somewhat disturbing trans-human vision of the future or a dream for futurists like Ray Kurzweil. A groundbreaking tech scientist is fatally wounded by modern Luddites and uploads his consciousness into the computer becoming 'transcendent' into the electronic realm. For good or for ill? it raises questions about if you can keep your humanity when absorbed in technology. Who knows?

3. Godzilla  (May 2014)
To be honest I was not sold on this idea originally...but then I seen the trailer: its Breaking Bad meets Jurassic Park!! Well...not exactly, but an epic monster movie staring Bryan Cranston and Ken Wantanabe has got my thumbs up and gives it more credit than some of these military versus something, something movie. Very cool trailer sound too (Sounds like something from Stanley Kubrick's 2001 A Space Odyssey).

4. X-men: Days of Future Past  (May 2014)
An epic trailer for an epic story and the music (Adagio in D Minor by John Murphy) really makes it. I wont explain too much as Ive not read up enough on the comic. In this movie, Wolverine is sent back in time from a dark future to change the doomed destiny of both human and mutant. I spotted what looks like Bishop in the trailer and theres other characters I'm interested in seeing (Cable and Apocalypse), looking forward to Peter Dinklage's performance and slightly concerned over the look of QuickSilver and the Sentinels.

5. Edge of Tomorrow  (June2014)
Liking the plot of this and checking out what its based on : the Japanese light novel 'All you need is kill' by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. An undefeatable alien invasion hits the earth and an inexperienced Tom Cruise fights and dies in an unwinnable battle but wakes up to relive and repeat it in a time loop, think of it as groundhog day meets independence day, not the best marketing slogan but I hope its cool.

6. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes  (July 2014)
Hail Caesar! This looks really gripping and interesting, being a fan of the original Planet of the Apes movie and although knowing that outcome the journey to it still remains utterly fascinating. It is set in the aftermath of the simian virus and several crippling wars, mankind is weakened while their ape enemies grow in strength.

7. Jupiter Ascending  (July 2014)
An Epic looking movie from the Wachowskis Siblings. After toilet cleaning janitor 'Jupiter' (Mila Kunis), is targeted for assassination by the rulers of the Universe, her would-be assassin (Channing Tatum) turns out to be her saviour. She learns of her special birth and DNA under a specific star alignment event and why she is a threat to those in power. This looks like a great fantasy sci-fi tale, could be the next 'Fifth Element' for me.

8. Guardians of the Galaxy  (August 2014)
This looks like good fun. I am somewhat familiar with aspects of Marvel universe characters from the likes of Nova, Ronan and the Annihilation series. This movies focuses on a misfit team of fugitive anti-heroes called the Guardians of the Galaxy consisting of Peter Quill (StarLord), Drax the Destroyer, Groot, Rocket and the deadly Gamora who must band together against their pursuers. I like how the tone isn't taking itself so seriously, as marvel have a lot of epic and kind of serious movies this year its a well timed bit of comic relief.

Did you agree with my list? Were my comments way off? Keeping things light and opinionated are good for the Sci-FI Blue Sky Blog but if you can fill in some more details, interesting facts or counter opinions please comment below. I want to hear your opinions and what Sci-Fi Movies you are looking forward to in 2014? I will  be updating more on upcoming movies titles as the year goes on, that's the line up folks as you can see there's lots to forward to!

Welcome to Sci-Fi Blue Sky!

Its in the name, its a blog about science fiction in a kind of blue sky thinking way, or to put it more cohesively this blog is all about the realms of science fiction in popular media, books, movies, games and more but also about  the realties of science fiction in new ideas, emerging technologies and science, future predictions and discussions all mixed in with my own spin, runaway thoughts, concepts and illustrations.

I am a fan of science fiction but by no means an expert, therefore this blog will be aim to be open minded and as light as zero gravity and not weighed down by the minute details. The finer aspects of sci-fi fanlore and facts would be appreciated in the comments section to share and discuss, if truth be told, this blog is more about my own learning and being exposed to new ideas, sharing and discussing within the context of Science Fiction.

Ideas affect  us all, now more than ever in the information age: long and not so long ago, it was myth and superstition that shaped our thinking and world, more recently Science and academia has become the new torchbearer for the story of human origin and perhaps human destiny, yet without imagination and vision would such technological innovation and social gains exist? Is Science Fiction the new myth of our time? Think about how many people believed (even a little) in the magic of the force when they first seen Star Wars, or 'woke up' when they seen the Matrix?or even now how many people hold a communicator device in their hand previously a fictional prop of the original Star Trek series?

Its not so hard to grasp that such ideas shape our world and thinking, I like to think of science ficition as a mental forge of mankinds future.

So follow the blog to stay tuned for more, i'll be looking to post up my own artwork and promote other artists- mainly illustrations or concept art to tie in with the topic theme with links to their site. Source material, Video and article links will also be added under each topic for further information.
